What are the best surfer jobs?

#1 - Choose your parents correctly

#2- Investment Banker of Course!!!

From my hero Robert Reich's Blog
Goldman and JPMorgan -- The Two Winners When The Rest of America is Losing

Besides Goldman Sachs, the Street's other surviving behemoth is JPMorgan. Today it posted second-quarter earnings up a stunning 36 percent from the first quarter, to $2.7 billion.

The resurgence of JPMorgan and Goldman Sachs gives both banks more financial clout than any other players on the Street -- allowing both firms to lure talent from everywhere else on the Street with multi-million pay packages, giving both firms enough economic power to charge clients whopping fees, and bestowing on both firms even more political heft in Washington.

I found an interesting article about surfers and their jobs.
SDSU Sociology Professor Michael Roberts helps his students understand the deep roots of popular surf culture.
Most interesting in that the good Professor used David Gray's pictures! He also goes on to say that our surfers choose jobs that will enhance their lifestyle.

Although the big firms have cut out the lavish parties. They are still making bank ....literally. A good banker will take his cash quietly and go to Tavarua for about a month or just buy Tavarua.

Surfing v Work Paradox....'Surfing is not a Crime'

Go ahead get a wave, you will feel better.

On finishing the fiscal year last Monday, I was happy to see that my excel spreadsheet did not produce any evil red numbers at the at sum total. This gives me hope that surfing is helpful to my career.

I am not a golfer. Having a long career as a sales person in various degrees of import I found myself golfing early on. Now I am not against golf or golfers as it seems it gives people somewhat of the same buzz we get surfing. But, I just couldn't get into it. I tried.....lessons, golf tournaments, golf clubs and all.
I get it that golf is the business sport and all, but around hole 7 I long for the water. Sales people talk big game about closing huge deals on the golf course and I know if there is a will there is a way. In the beer business we would talk about closing big deals in a bar on a napkin. It was never the case. In the end it was planning, time and some luck in the big deals.

Around disaster time last year, I talked with Bob Rogers a guy much smarter than me who has been building his business for a while.

Me.. "Bob what are you doing to get through this mess"

Bob.. "Making more calls on customers most likely to buy"
There it is. I didn't stop surfing to work 20 hours a day, I just tried to make more calls on customers who were likely to buy.
Now I can go into the summer looking for long period south swells and warmer water without feeling that I am committing surf felonies.
