The Rock Shows Swell

We hit the swell. The locals are calling this the swell of the year on the South Shore. This is Populars Waikiki next to Queens.

Sometime in the summer of my teens when we had to hitch hike to the beach with our boards, we found a ride from some guy who was stuck in the 60's. After spending the good part of the day trying for our ride this guy pulls up in an old vw and takes us to the beach. We pulled up to a flat Stockton Ave in Santa Cruz to see one little wake hit a rock.
Hippie old surfer dude...... "The Rock Shows Swell"
Surf Crazed kids..."Are you out of your mind"
Hippie old surfer dude...."Mellow out man it is all in the plan"
At which time my friend came over the seat to clock the poor guy but was stopped before contact by my back pack.

Hippie old surfer dude..."Out, Out of my car"
Logan ripping the left this morning.
Lucas on an air drops in the eye of the storm.

At 5:12 AM about a week into your summer vacation

You get the News you are not going to driving to Ventura for a non surfing family vacation, you are on the way to the airport for the 8:15 to Hawaii!!!!

Just when the kids thought their summer could not get better they land on the South Shore of Oahu for the best south swell of the season. Pictures to follow.

Beacons Summer

Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing. H Keller

Taking off late .

I decided I want to be my son Logan. Just finishing 6th grade he is starting to surf well. He has been able to spend time surfing with Erik Baldwin giving him some insight to the art of riding the ocean.

Surfing v Work Paradox....'Surfing is not a Crime'

Go ahead get a wave, you will feel better.

On finishing the fiscal year last Monday, I was happy to see that my excel spreadsheet did not produce any evil red numbers at the at sum total. This gives me hope that surfing is helpful to my career.

I am not a golfer. Having a long career as a sales person in various degrees of import I found myself golfing early on. Now I am not against golf or golfers as it seems it gives people somewhat of the same buzz we get surfing. But, I just couldn't get into it. I tried.....lessons, golf tournaments, golf clubs and all.
I get it that golf is the business sport and all, but around hole 7 I long for the water. Sales people talk big game about closing huge deals on the golf course and I know if there is a will there is a way. In the beer business we would talk about closing big deals in a bar on a napkin. It was never the case. In the end it was planning, time and some luck in the big deals.

Around disaster time last year, I talked with Bob Rogers a guy much smarter than me who has been building his business for a while.

Me.. "Bob what are you doing to get through this mess"

Bob.. "Making more calls on customers most likely to buy"
There it is. I didn't stop surfing to work 20 hours a day, I just tried to make more calls on customers who were likely to buy.
Now I can go into the summer looking for long period south swells and warmer water without feeling that I am committing surf felonies.
