In the be careful of what you wish for file

I have two contests this weekend. Logan made the Roster for his Middle School and Lucas made the roster as the only Freshman to do so at his High School.

Having returned from a long week in Texas with lots of work stuff I come home to my dream of having my kids into surfing. I might have over reached.

Saturday and Sunday the heats start at 7am and I could be there till 4.

But, who is kidding who? I am excited, nervous, proud and ready to keep my inner stage mom at bay while watching/living vicariously through my kids.

WSA Menehune Contest

We went to Huntington Beach for a 'easy contest' this morning. Logan was greeted with two WSA Prime surfers and a NSSA National Champ in his first heat.

Logan came back strong in the Longboard Division.
A little prep from his brother for his final.
They both took home 3rd place trophies in their age division! not a bad days work....

"I came to the realization that my son will not get into the ASP untill he is 25"...Parent at the State Finals

At the contest this weekend the kids surfed at a level that was insane.

After hearing the above quote from the ISF State Finals this weekend, I realized there is a debarkation point from the first few rounds where the kids are having fun to the later rounds where the parents have lost their minds.

The State Championships were fun for us. Lucas made it through to the Semis and placed 9th overall. It was surreal watching him advance both days. I kept saying "if you only make it through one heat" we can have a fun weekend at our spot just surfing this weekend. But he kept advancing.

It was at Oceanside Harbor and the waves were small but clean and consistant.

Nerves ran wild on the beach.

I was a bit worried....was this cheating...unfair or am I too much of a stage mom

The wide ear to ear grins as my kid gets out of the water tells the story! Confidence buit and new skill sets seem to be coming faster than we expected. Then as all surfers at some point there is a play by play on how hard he was ripping........17 times last night.

ISF Rating Lucas is 5 out of 245

I know I have gone overboard on this. The whole surfing is fun and why compete is my mantra. But yes if I were my kid I would have this tatooed on my forehead.
